Love Anchors
Love anchors us. It provides a firm place of perspective for our hearts, our minds, our emotions and our intentions.
Without love it is possible to exhaust our spirits in our solitude, longing, isolation and necessary self-reliance.
We frequently pigeonhole love as ‘romantic’ love. Narrowly defining love limits its power and properties to influence our lives.
All ‘types’ of love can anchor our lives and provide meaning. We can be anchored by love of purpose or kindness. Scientists, authors, and humanitarians (among others) are anchored by their love of discovery and devotion to cause.
The love that anchors and informs our life can become our life raft in times of turmoil. Love allows us to see beyond the immediate into the infinite. It reminds us of ‘more’ to come when we are marginalized or diminished by a loss, a sense of less.
Love expands our views and our world.
When we focus on love we diminish pain. When we are in pain from the loss of a love (if we allow it) we can be reminded by another love, that love itself is infinite. We all know many people who have survived great loss by focusing on great giving, in essence great love.
We are the ones who confine love with our narrow definitions of one: one person, one item one thing, one idea of how things should be.
In the words of St. Francis: “Where there is hatred let me sow love” is a reminder that love has the amazing power to heal in even the darkest places IF we allow it.
If we allow love to guide our words, our thoughts and our decisions, how different would our day be; how different would our life be; how different would we as a human being be; how different would our world be?
